The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Happy Halloween my friends! If your love for the holiday is comparable to mine in any way, then I am sure you have heard of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Published in 1820, Washington Irving tells the famous story of Ichabod Crane, a superstitious school teacher who tries to escape the wrath of the Headless Horseman. The story is set in a town called Sleepy Hollow, or what was previously North Tarrytown, New York. The town permanently changed their name to Sleepy Hollow in 1996 to honor the work of Washington Irving, who is buried in the local church cemetery. We headed over to New York for a weekend of spooky fun. We visited the famed graveyard, saw professionally carved pumpkins, explored an exceptionally frightening haunted trail and even survived a few encounters with the Horseman himself! I took advantage of the warmer weather and wore a corduroy skirt (grab a similar one below for only $11!!) paired with a thin sweater and a vest. It's always nice to not have to wear a jacket at this time of year. In the photos you'll catch glimpses of Washington Irving's grave, the Headless Horseman Bridge plus some beautiful foliage! I wish you all a fun and safe Halloween! Let me know how you are celebrating in the comments!

Salem

Salem
I have always been fascinated by the Salem witch trials. I grew up visiting the area and learning about the history. It is something I look forward to doing every year and would suggest a visit if you've never been. The town bustles with haunted houses, ghost tours, old cemeteries, magic shoppes, boutiques and museums. I usually spend a full day, but could easily fill a weekend. Jumping into the fall spirit, I wore a long autumnal cardigan over jeans and high boots. The outfit was casual, but I am in love with this Madewell sweater. It is so soft and long, and the rusty shade is perfect for this time of year!

Pumpkin Festival 2017

Pumpkin Festival 2017
For me, fall is all about traditions. Every year, my weekends quickly fill up with plans made with friends and families. Every so often we try something new; for instance this year I am visiting Sleepy Hollow, New York for some spooky fun. On the other hand, there are some traditions that never change. One such custom is to visit the Milford NH Pumpkin Festival. Held in the middle of a small, quaint town, the pumpkin festival is probably not something most people would travel to yearly. However, my family makes the trek to pick apples, share fair food and carve pumpkins in a graveyard every single fall. It's a long day so I always try to dress comfy, this year choosing jeans and a button down paired with high boots (necessary for the orchards!) I love that this top dresses up the typical flannel style with a big bow collar, plus it is the perfect fall colors.
