4th of July Styles: Dress it Up or Dress it Down

Dress It Up
Happy almost 4th everyone! I am so excited to be sharing this project with you. In my first blog post of this type, I'm giving you some options on how to style an outfit for the upcoming holiday! I took two patriotic looks that would be perfect for casual weekend fun and dressed one up and relaxed the other. Options are always the best, and if you have more than one party to head out to this weekend, you might even want to give each style a try! For the more formal outfit, I got my red, white and blue from a pair of white skinnies paired with a J.Crew blouse and earrings. This top was basically made for the fourth of July; it's a light navy fabric finished with festive white bow straps. The statement earrings were the perfect flourish to finish off the patriotic look (and of course the red lipstick!)

Dress It Down
This look is a little more relaxed, fitting for a barbecue or a night under the fireworks! My stripes are their own Fourth of July outfit, in an extremely flattering top from Vineyard Vines. As always, my denim is from American Eagle and I finished the outfit off my favorite pair of Jacks: red and gold! When I bought these I didn't think I would get as much use out of them as I have but they have become a wardrobe staple. Hope you enjoyed each look and I have linked both outfits below!

Confession: yellow is usually my least favorite color, but for some reason I just cannot get enough this season! It feels warm and airy, like the perfect color for summer sun. So obviously I couldn't help but snag this top, a total steal for under $30, when I saw these ruffled sleeves in my new favorite seasonal color. And wow am I glad I did because it was perfect for a hot summer day like today! Today's adventure's led me to the beautiful Bradbury Building. What could be dismissed as a typical office building opens into a beautiful atrium of stained wood, ornate iron designs and a beautiful skylight that allows for a shift in natural light as the day progresses. If the building looks a little familiar to you, that may be because you've seen it in a quite a few movies and television shows such as Blade Runner and, my personal favorite, (500) Days of Summer. Today's outfit was ideal for some casual exploration and beating the heat. Plus, these pineapple earrings are the perfect subtle summer accessory! Enjoy and stay cool as summer starts to heat up!

Finally! The beach! After almost a month in California, I finally made it back to the water. And if you squint hard enough you can almost pretend I'm in Newport. Alas, I am in Santa Monica, where it is 90 degrees and the pier is covered in carnival rides. I couldn't resist heading down to the shore for sunset, the pastel colors were to die for. Today I dressed up this Topshop romper with wedges and statement earrings, but this outfit would work with casual flats too! The romper is a versatile summer staple, and this one is a steal for under $100! Also, if you're on the hunt for tassel earrings, J.Crew always hits the spot with gorgeous details and awesome sales. I love these champagne hued gems that I got on clearance (plus a student discount!)
