Dressing Up in the Winter

Dressing Up in the Winter
One of my biggest complaints about winter is how difficult it can be to dress up. Sometimes the weather can prohibit skirts and dresses, sometimes the snow isn’t compatible with cute shoes. So today I present to you my go to winter outfit when I need to stray from jeans, a cozy sweater and my bean boots (which has been and will always be my winter uniform). My first step is always to pick a statement piece. I opted for this fun hat from Pink Pineapple Shop - the pattern helps it stand out but the colors are well-suited for most things in my wardrobe, making it a great addition. Moving on from there I choose a warm sweater, either thick wool or a turtleneck. In this case I wanted something thin and easy to tuck, making this basic turtleneck my best bet. Here’s the trick to the bottom half: keep your fabrics warm, it still helps! This wool skirt from KJP is much warmer than you might think. Paired with some good quality, thick tights it’s really no different than having on a pair of jeans. Lastly, shoes. This is always the hardest, especially in the snow and slush. Personally, I love a tall leather boot, especially with a sweater/skirt combo. They look a little more dressy than a winter boot and their height helps keep out any unwanted snow. If you’re not willing to sacrifice the warmth provided by your lined bean boots, that’s perfectly fine! Bean boots are a great alternative for a slightly more casual look - check back in next week to see how I style another dressy winter outfit using everyone’s favorite L.L Bean staple!

Sleepy Hollow 2018

Sleepy Hollow 2018
While Halloween may be over, I am not quite ready to let go of fall. One of my favorite autumnal activities is heading to Sleepy Hollow, New York. In this quiet town, Halloween comes to life. If visiting this quaint town sounds intriguing to you, make sure you buy tickets well in advance. This year, tickets for plays, events and haunted happenings sold out by labor day weekend.
On the first day I opted for a light, casual sweater and dressed the outfit up with some over-the-knee boots (these ones were a steal!). OTK boots are the perfect cold weather accessory for elevating your look. A sizing note: I opted for an XXS in the Madewell wrap sweater. I typically wear a small or sometimes an extra-small, but the cut of this top felt more comfortable in a smaller size. The second day was a little colder so I layered up a chunky knit with a classic coat and scarf. I picked up this sweater at Marshalls, but linked a similar one below!

Sunflower Fields Forever

Sunflower Fields Forever
Hiya friends! Things have been a little slow around here, mostly because I've been super sick for the past week or so. So I thought a nice way to return would be with a bright, happy blog post. I visited Dame Farm & Orchards in Johnston, RI for a dose of floral fun. Unfortunately, the sunflower season is super short and already over for this summer. However, it returns every year so be sure to mark your calendars for next summer! They also have other pick your own crops throughout the seasons, currently blueberries are available.
I selected this super comfortable denim romper for my trip. I matched the flowers with a simple bandana and a pair of floral earrings. Wearing a jumpsuit always makes me feel like I have to wear heels or risk looking really short and frumpy. Due to the nature of the activity, I opted for chunky sandals to help navigate the uneven terrain. I've had these shoes on repeat all summer and I got them for only $9, so keep an eye out for sales!

Gift Guide

Gift Guide

Picking out gifts is not always an easy task. I'm here to help by offering up some of my personal favorites of the season! This list can help you find gifts to give friends or family or even add to you own wish list. As a note, this guide is much easier to view on a laptop than on a mobile device due to the collage structure.
