Dressing Up in the Winter
One of my biggest complaints about winter is how difficult it can be to dress up. Sometimes the weather can prohibit skirts and dresses, sometimes the snow isn’t compatible with cute shoes. So today I present to you my go to winter outfit when I need to stray from jeans, a cozy sweater and my bean boots (which has been and will always be my winter uniform). My first step is always to pick a statement piece. I opted for this fun hat from Pink Pineapple Shop - the pattern helps it stand out but the colors are well-suited for most things in my wardrobe, making it a great addition. Moving on from there I choose a warm sweater, either thick wool or a turtleneck. In this case I wanted something thin and easy to tuck, making this basic turtleneck my best bet. Here’s the trick to the bottom half: keep your fabrics warm, it still helps! This wool skirt from KJP is much warmer than you might think. Paired with some good quality, thick tights it’s really no different than having on a pair of jeans. Lastly, shoes. This is always the hardest, especially in the snow and slush. Personally, I love a tall leather boot, especially with a sweater/skirt combo. They look a little more dressy than a winter boot and their height helps keep out any unwanted snow. If you’re not willing to sacrifice the warmth provided by your lined bean boots, that’s perfectly fine! Bean boots are a great alternative for a slightly more casual look - check back in next week to see how I style another dressy winter outfit using everyone’s favorite L.L Bean staple!
