Introducing Corona

Introducing Corona
Exciting news! If you have somehow missed all of my most recent posts on social media, boy do I have a surprise for you. We got a puppy!! Last Saturday, Jake flew down to Texas to pick up our little bundle of joy. He's a minimal white red merle Australian Shepherd. He just turned 9 weeks old this past Tuesday. His name is Corona (:

You can follow Corona's adventures on his personal puppy insta @coronatheaussie for exclusive content!

A few questions I've already gotten and will answer them throughout this post! Also, my outfit details are listed allllll the way at the bottom. Enjoy y'all!

Why didn't you adopt?

The honest answer is - we tried. We applied for multiple adoptions and were either denied or completely ghosted by the shelters. The common denominator seemed to be that this was our 'first puppy'. While Jake and I both helped raise family dogs, that did not meet most qualifications. Eventually we stumbled across Corona and fell in love, the rest is history.

Why Texas?
Australian Shepherds are herding dogs and historically have always had their tails docked to prevent injury when working on farms. However, over time this has turned into the breed standard. Therefore most breeders dock the tails of their pups to keep the show dog aesthetic. We knew right away that we weren't interested in mutilating our newborn puppy for no good reason. He was a pet, not a working dog and his tail was adorable. We found a wonderfully woman in Texas who keeps tails on all of her puppies (honestly very hard to find - trust me, I tried) so Jake booked a ticket and here we are.

Why an Australian Shepherd?
When we started looking at adoptable dogs, we kept picking similar looking dogs. We were drawn to their cute lil face and coloring. Turns out, the common denominator was Australian Shepherd. After learning that we did tons of research and quickly discovered that would be our perfect fit. They're easy to train and great family dogs, making them a wonderful first puppy for us to raise together!

Why is his name Corona?
A few reasons actually! Yes, the beer, we can get that one out of the way quick. Jake and I love beaches and boating and spend a lot of time on the water drinking Coronas, so the name was funny and fitting. But Corona also refers to the solar corona, as in the glow emitted around the sun that is especially visible during a total solar eclipse. His eyes reminded us of that glow and made the name even more fitting. Finally, it also refers to the Spanish word corona, meaning crown. He's our little prince so he definitely needs his crown.

Formulate Review & Giveaway

Formulate Review & Giveaway
Hi y'all! Today I am taking a little break from talking outfit details (still listed below though) to talk to you about the next most important part of any look: hair. As most of you know, I did a major hair chop late last summer. It quickly became apparent that I would have to find new ways to style my hair, the old stuff just wasn't working for my new length. After almost a year I have kind of gotten the hang of it - practice makes perfect!

Because short hair is a bit more unruly I had to spend a lot more time using heat on my hair than I was used to. I went from air dried natural curls to blow drying, straightening and curling multiple times a week. When you're damaging your hair to such an extent you have to take extra care to make sure it stays as healthy as possible. Here are some tips I learned along the way:

1. I wash it every other day or so to avoid unnecessary styling
2. Dry shampoo always helps add a little volume on those in between days
3. Know your hair type and treat it accordingly

That last one is definitely the trickiest, which is why I am super excited to introduce you guys to Formulate! Formulate is a company that sends you shampoo and conditioner that is 100% made for you. You start by taking a quiz to determine your hair type and to pick goals for your hair. My personal goals were anti-frizz, color protection, glossiness, length and oil control but there are so many to choose from!

Soon enough I got my first set in the mail. I couldn't wait to try it out, only to find that my hair felt....well, weird after. I had been told that Formulate is a sulfate-free shampoo and that my hair might need to adjust if this was new. Still, I couldn't get myself to love the formulation. And here's the best part: Formulate worked with me until I found the perfect combination for me and my hair. No extra charge, no hassle - just a brand new set until we found a match.

I am really happy with my results and I would love to see y'all treating your hair right which is why I have teamed up with Formulate for a giveaway! All you have to do is click the link below to enter a personalized shampoo and conditioner set. Good luck!!
